Day 0 Update

Date:
By Ronny Reuters OBE (MP)

The crowds trickled in, the hooks were sharpened and the birds were singing; the 2012 Manning Point Fishing Classic started in fine style on Friday 23rd of March 2012.
After Thursday afternoon fish-fest Mangrove, Ganghook and Fishin headed off to continue their good work. Mr Mahi Mahi (MMM) and Haka Jo headed upstream. Both groups had some level of success with MMM and Haka Jo getting a few fish. Mangrove's underwater camera was given a bit of a workout as well. The other crews turned up throughout the day and some enjoyable and relaxing fishing was done up near the nipper flats (or what's left of them after the river mouth now being huge).

At 5 pm the official proceedings began with the tournament overview, presentation of shirts to rookies from previous champions and presentation of the tournament showbags. Captain Bluering's 150 Lashes brew also got setup and tasted - gorgeous!

Sleepy Phil arrived just in time to head down to the raffles at Manning Point Bowling Club where the boys cleaned up winning 11 meat trays. Saturday's BBQ will be plentiful. Food was enjoyed at the Brighton Bistro which was pretty good, however not enough steaks (again). Marlin Macca and Kneptune showed their dedication to fishing by retiring early. 'The Old Relics' were playing at the club which was really just one guy and his old computer. Having great musical taste the boys headed into the pool room and played the jukebox, loudly. Captain Bluering and Mangrove were the kings of the pool table however Roughy Rod, Prawnstar, Sir James, Sleepy Phil, Barra and plenty of the respected fishers joined in.

After solving Manning Point's GFC crisis by pouring a heap of money into the local economy, the team headed to the new Manning Point nightclub, 'Number 5' where bacon and eggs were served, more of the Captain's brew was consumed and most of the worlds problems solved well into the wee hours. A special mention goes to social dynamite Sleepy Phil who stayed up until 1am and the got up at 5am to get to work. No wonder he's called Sleepy.
