Police praise committee action

Manning Point police chief Mark Copperi (possibly a relative of Marcus Copperi) has praised the decision of the organising committee to implement a 'no blog - no grog' policy.

Slurring his words from the bar of the Manning Point Bowlo after several schooners, Mark said that he hoped that the now dry '06 extreme fishing contest would result in far fewer public order offenses than the previous one last year or was that the year before - I can't remember.....

In other news, the first spectators have started arriving to gain the best vantage points. Police are urging all spectators to be calm and to observe the new prohibition rules.  "If the competitors can't drink then we don't expect the spectators to either", one Copperi was heard to say.

News of this has prompted Ebay to crack down on ticket scalpers after it was revealed that tickets for the opening ceremony are being sold for as much as $10 000 each.  "This is absolutely ridiculous," an Ebay spokesman said, "we expect these tickets to sell for at least $50 000, particularly as the opening ceremony tickets allow the holder to buy unlimited quantities of beer for the competitors".
